Musée Ariana ‘s contemporary collection has evolved considerably in recent years, placing itself increasingly at the crossroads of applied arts, design and contemporary art.
This exhibition is conceived as a retrospective of works acquired between 2010 and 2024, often in connection with the numerous contemporary exhibitions organized during this period. It is intended to reflect the scientific team’s free, forward-looking approach to the latest developments in Swiss and international ceramics, in order to gain an overview of the development of the artistic scene in this field. This freedom is always conditional on the generosity of a patron, as the museum does not have an acquisition budget.
“Rustic like the wooden table, dried slices of bread by Terézia Krnáčová lie on the white tablecloth. The glass domes enrapture and protect them at the same time. Around them are plates illustrated by Estelle Gassmann. Empty, they refer to past meals. This table in our restaurant All You CanNOT Eat is called the daily bread and its leftovers.”
Mistakes occur, mishaps happen, things get damaged, many things remain unfinished or provisional. Imperfection accompanies our lives and we learn to deal with it through different strategies. Even in creative processes, in the material world and in productions, imperfection itself and its consequences are extremely diverse – from a blemish that unexpectedly defines a valuable one-off to a ruinous production error or a failed construction project.

From the various stages of blooming to the fully blossomed flower to the fading with the discolouration and separation of the leaves, each flower presents a constantly new appearance subject to transformation and transience – each with its very own aesthetic component.
The Musée d’art et d’histoire is joining forces with the Château de Nyon to host, on their respective sites, the new edition of the national ceramics exhibition organized by swissceramics – Association Céramique Suisse.
In collaboration with artlemon, a newly founded community for the next art collectors, Galerie Ziegler is trying out a new format to experience the three-part exhibition XXs & Partner | XXs minus Partner | XXs – showing a diverse set of works by artists with both long-standing and new relationships with the world’s oldest gallery still actively managed by its founders.
This year’s summer exhibition “Fruchtwerk” at Galerie Handwerk is dedicated to the theme of fruit and shows how it can inspire creative craftsmanship. This exhibition is about looking at the formal aspects of fruit as a small sculpture or object and illuminating it as a motif. However, it also aims to show fruit in its processing, harvesting and storage.

The wilderness of a flower bed above the dusty storage room of plaster moulds in a traditional ceramics factory in Portugal. Extinguished candles lean towards the sea horizon off the tourist island of Tenerife. A collage of moments from my everyday life as a designer and as a traveller, fired on porcelain, faded and partially bent by the heat, by the sun. Blurred memories brought into a new relationship or multiplied.
The individual pictures and the way they are arranged open up spaces and vistas and direct the gaze into the distance.
Estelle’s ceramics are characterized by a passionate interest in the provocative encounter of different materials and motifs. They reveal detailed observations by an artist working at the extreme limit of the production process. The aesthetics that result are based on a selection of random discoveries.
During the working period at the ekwc I explored processes and formations of structures growing out of the holes in openworked ceramic pieces. Some processes are controlled and stopped deliberately, others are left to chance: So e.g. the glazed pattern on a plate is melting into the third dimension drawn by running through masses during firing.
Foolforapril, initiated by Anna Kanai and Andreas Doller, brings together 14 artists from Zurich, Vevey, Basel, Uster and Hamburg, across the generations and with the most diverse positions. Inspired by the treacherous moods of the month of April, the artists engage in foolish hustle and bustle and holy mischief.
“The work as it can be seen here in the exhibition is a snapshot of a consistently realised process. Through experimentation, which appears unpredictable up to a certain point and can also fail, absolutely fascinating objects are created. They are sensual and have a fascination that is not limited to beauty.” From the jury report of the designcontest organised by formforum Switzerland.
