About Estelle Gassmann

The everyday and the precious
Estelle Gassmann is an attentive observer of everyday life. Her design ideas emerge from a curious perspective open to chance and sensitive to even the smallest details. Whether it’s discarded foil wrappers, crushed blossoms on the sidewalk, or preserved seaweed, her process begins with what is often overlooked. This leads to an intuitive design approach where the precise placement of individual elements is just as important as the overall image that unfolds across textiles or ceramics. These compositions reflect the poetry of the everyday and the incidental. They express her interest in unexpected encounters, contrasting materials, atmospheric qualities and the meanings embedded in materiality.
Estelle Gassmann follows two distinct yet connected paths in her work. Bed and table linens as well as tableware are shaped by functional design requirements, while still conveying a strong visual and tactile presence in everyday use. Her ceramic objects and images, by contrast, allow more room for experimentation and unpredictability in the making process. Each piece is shaped by an aesthetic and material encounter that sometimes pushes boundaries.
Estelle Gassmann’s objects and products engage the senses. They bring elements of nature and the garden into interior spaces or present themselves as delicate and quietly striking visual pieces. They have something to say without seeking to dominate their surroundings.
